July
Off to California. On a whim, we looked to see if Worldmark had any openings for 4th of July and I think we lucked out since we found a unit available! We ended up being next door to Disneyland! And the best part was we didn't go to Disneyland! (that's a miserable hot time of the year, and crowded!) We enjoyed beaches, seeing Laura/Maynrad and just had fun being together.
Best story of the trip was getting to the beach. While Shayne parked the car, the boys were tossing a frisbee toy. Immediately (honestly, within 3 minutes) the toy was on a part of the beach that was steep with cactus. Cole thought he could just go get it. Without his shoes. It was funny and the most miserable thing to watch - he did step in a cactus, tried to get out of it and stepped into another, then his hands got in it - and he fell over onto his leg - oh it was terrible. He was screaming bloody murder, so I treked up the hillside, put him on my back (did I mention he's the same size as me now?) and I carried him down this little slope and it was slow going and trecherous. (BTW, I got the toy from below before Cole could even get close to it - insult to injury). I took one quick pic, but this doesn't do justice. By the time Shayne got to us, we were sitting on the beach pulling out the biggest cactus thorns and Cole was screaming. A couple of men came over and helped too. One used (sacrificed) his flip flops so we wouldn't have to touch the cactus with our bare hands. A lifeguard came at the end and lent us tweezers and we got out the rest of the little fibers. It was an hour-long ordeal. No fun for him. Luckily salt water is healing in this type of situation - he was back to himself within the hour.
Different beach day.
Back home and now it's time for FAMILY REUNIONS!
First a little bike ride with the aunts and uncles who want to ride.
Look how much he's grown in 3 months!
Fishing with Papa and cousins. Mommy was brave and helped get the fish off the lines, put worms on hooks and tried to help Papa manage the chaos of tangled lines - the kids just kept pulling one after another in!
Oneacre Reunion
This was the first time that the Oneacre's had this much family together in almost 20 years. It was long overdue and it was a whirlwind. My mom invited all her siblings and THEY CAME! As did many of my cousins. I planned little adventures around our area to give our extended family a taste of Utah and it was a HUGE SUCCESS. (And exhausting!) Some highlights:
We went to Sundance to take the extended family to the views from the top of the mountains. Shayne, Hunter and Cole went biking. It ended quickly. Cole wrecked at the first turn - and ended up with 8 stitches in urgent care. Poor Cole. Again.
My parents with all their grandkids!
Devri was the official photographer and we're lucky to have her!
The whole gang
It was a GREAT weekend!
We snuck in a little ride with Kirk & Chandler at the tail end of the weekend. It was straight up and not my favorite ride. I quit earlier than the boys and Chandler turned around with me - it's always more fun riding downhill.
A really cool experience was watching this snake come up from the river with a fish and swallowing it whole. We had no choice but wait for him to finish his dinner until Chandler could come across the bridge.
Alisa and I
Decided to check Cole for Allergies.
Yup, he's allergic to NATURE. Poor Cole. Again.
More time with the family
this is date night without the kids - a rare treat which included ice cream too!
